The start of a new year always has me making fitness and health resolutions. I completely binged on cookies this holiday season. And I don't mean like, "Tee hee I had 3 cookies, I'm so bad!" but more like "I just ate 12 cookies in 5 minutes and I'm not sure what just happened."
What DID happen is that my jeans are too tight again. I lost the baby weight, and then I put a fair amount of it back on. Breastfeeding and (mostly) healthy eating can only take me so far now that I'm not 27 anymore. I need to get moving. I have a few workout DVDs since my attached little guy isn't likely fond of being left in gym childcare centers just yet (but this Summer watch out!) and I get to them when I can, which isn't often I'll be honest.
I can only do so much right now, but what I wish was that I'd been more active during pregnancy.
A copy of Prenatal Dance with Menina was sent my way, and my lazy bum took quite a while to get around to viewing it. I'm not a gym person really, not a runner, but I do love to dance. I wish I'd seen this DVD 2 years ago!
Relaxing Prenatal Yoga DVDs weren't easy to do with another kid at home--something about me turning on a video has a bizarre effect on my child. She immediately insists on being held or needing my attention as if she knows I've entered into the "me time" zone. This one however, I put on and both kids were interested in watching and then joining along.
It's super low impact, or "zero impact" as a chiropractor on the DVD says, includes lots of hip-opening exercises and dance moves that are great for anyone preparing for labor and birth. The music is light and upbeat, the set up is simple and colorful, and it's simple enough to enjoy and have fun with while giving your body a natural energy boost.
Menina herself is a homebirthing holistically-minded mama, and knows the value of having a strong healthy body when planning to birth. I think that's really important in deciding who to trust as a prenatal fitness example.
Menina is offering the lovely folks reading here a 25% discount until FEB 14, 2013 for all online orders with the code LUVDANCE, and I'm happy to be passing along the copy she gave me to one commenter here. Want to win it? Here's how:
1. Join this site with Google Friend Connect (over to the right here -->) and leave me a comment about what your go-to pregnancy exercise is/was.
2. For an extra entry: Like both my page & Prenatal Dance with Menina on Facebook and leave a comment that you've done so.
3. For another entry: Tweet, Post on Facebook, or Blog about this giveaway and leave a link here in the comments that you've done so.
So yay, 3 ways to win! Or really 4 if you buy the DVD yourself and start working it with your beautiful healthy pregnant self (remember the 25% discount code is: LUVDANCE) Enjoy! I'll pick a winner on Friday February 8.
Disclaimer: I was sent a sample of this product in order to review it but received no monetary compensation for this post. I do not review things without trying them first, because y'all deserve better than that. I also do not review items I don't believe will be of interest or enjoyment to the folks who read here because nobody has time for that.
***UPDATE***
Colleen is the winner!

MARY CATHERINE - You are AMAZING! Thank you for your honest, fun, humorous review!
ReplyDeleteI have the same experience with my little one. I still do my PRENATAL DANCE DVD on my lazy days at home and my little one follows along. She now brings the DVD to me and says "LET'S DANCE". Even though this was intended for pregnant women, it can still be beneficial after baby.
I hope you & your kids enjoy the DVD!
ooh...this sounds like it might actually be doable (as opposed to my prenatal yoga dvd for all the reasons you mentioned...). My boys find it hilarious and magical when I dance.
ReplyDeleteOh boy. I'm thinking I'm done having babies (am I? Oh man. I NEVER KNOW! Just saying that I'm done makes me want to cry! Is that a sign!?! UGH!) but I think this is something I can do with the kids around. Love it! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
ReplyDeleteI have some previous knee injuries and during my last pregnancy was looking for something just like this! We're trying for our second and I would love to have this in place beforehand. :)
ReplyDeleteMy go to is yoga, combined with the Bradley exercises!
ReplyDeleteLiked both on facebook!
ReplyDeleteI did yoga classes and went to the gym - did the elliptical mainly, with my last two pregnancies. I'm not sure what I'll be able to accomplish this time around! I can't get out of the house as much, and trying any yoga on the floor here turns me into a jungle gym ;) But dance... they like to dance with me, so we could manage that, I think. lol.
